Crescent Heights Day 39

First day of the new school year.

12 kids, all around 2 years old. Only 3 can talk, Zarah, Charlie (Katherine's younger sister who looks exactly like her but miniature), and this taller, more mature girl named Mila. There are two boys who Ms. Flores warned me, "are runners." Their names are Maximus and Charles and neither of them speak words.

Charles was upset and pushed chairs down on the ground, at least 4 chairs before he stopped and ran away. Mr. Wayne got him to put the chairs back up. Ms. Jodhi pushed Mr. Wayne to be more active today. She said after watching me run around, she expects more out of him, regardless of his 40 years at Crescent Heights. She had him help with diapers around 4pm, she had him handle the boys.

When you turn your back, Maximus starts climbing on furniture to get to a robot that is stored on top of a file cabinet. He runs and climbs with toys in his hands and turns everything into a chase. He doesn't speak, he screams and cries.

It was very loud today. Ms. Jodhi brought the kids in early, they were feral outside. Climbing on the furniture, taking toys onto the jungle gym, not listening to anyone. I felt sweat bead under my face mask and was thankful to go inside to a more contained space.

I'm not yelling or raising my voice at the kids. And I don't want to pull or drag them. So I'll ask someone else to do it for me, because it's the only way. Ms. Jodhi had to carry kids across the room when they wouldn't move.
