Mrs. Flores taught me right away that we need two adults to approach the runners (Maximus and Charles), so that they are cornered and unable to run away. It's very useful, but you need another person.
Both runners needed long hugs today, and they let me hug them. I can understand how Ms. Jodhi can be patient with them after holding and hugging them. You remember they're just babies who are overwhelmed in the new environment.
Ms. Jodhi reminded me to use Mr. Wayne when we're outside, he needs to move around and adapt to the new kids. I sent Mr. Wayne to watch over Charles, while I kept an eye on Maximus and Ms. Leslie and Ms. Jodhi oversaw the rest. It's harder to corner the runners outside, and when another aide, Ms. Nikki, saw that Maximus was running with a toy piece of bread in his mouth, she tried to help me triangulate him, but it was too much distance. Luckily his grandmother came on the yard and helped us corral him. Ms. Flores told me that Maximus is only allowed to be picked up by his grandma or uncle, not his mother or father. There's so much going on at home that we don't know.
Abigail chased Zarah around, trying to play with her. Zarah started whining and I told her to use her words to tell Abigail that she doesn't want to play right now. Abigail kept going for Zarah, until I walked over and separated them. Abigail seems like a baby, she forces her will onto others without using words. I think Zarah is six months older than Abigail, but Abigail seems like a year younger.
I had the kids play with Magnatiles when we came inside. Charlie wanted all of the tiles as she stacked them on the table into a tower. Zarah liked the little boxes I made for her, and she built more boxes on top to make a house. Charles was laying the tiles on the table flat, making arrangements and patterns in 2D. I called over to Ms. Jodhi to see how each kid plays with the same toy so differently.
Before the older kids came in for "afterschool," Ms. Jodhi told me that I'm only responsible for the 4 kids from our class, and that the other aides need to be in the room with us and the 12 kids from their rooms. At one point, it was just me and Ms. Jodhi with our younger ones running around and she poked her head out to the hallway and said "we need help in here! we don't have enough adults!" Ms. Tameka and Ms. Nadia did not come back immediately, and Ms. Jodhi said, "see what I mean?" Ms. Nadia eventually came back, after talking to a parent in the hallway, she apologized to Ms. Jodhi. Ms. Tameka came after she finished the front desk.
