Crescent Heights Day 9

There were only two diapers to change today. Miss Leslie was out and her substitute was Miss Yami, short for her last name Yamileth. That's answers what I'd be if I went by my last name, Miss Yama. Miss Yami and I handled the changing, it went quickly and smoothly. The other day, Miss Sosie was worried that I only wore one glove while I waited in the hallway for the bathroom to open up so we can change Lily. The principal, Miss Champ, and Miss Leslie were checking Sophie who complained about her diaper area and had blood on her dress from opening a scab in her ear. Miss Sosie said that we must have two gloves on when we're helping the kids, especially when the principal is there. I told her that I hadn't started changing anyone and I thought she was going to because she was holding Lily, but I went and put on a second glove. I realize that Miss Sosie must have some past experience where she was yelled at or fired for making mistakes, so she tries to correct me but it's an over reaction. Thanks to my anti-depressant, her corrections just slide right off of me.

The weather was much more pleasant today, but the kids were still punchy. Literally. Well shove-y. Penny shoved the cart into someone, then Eliana started pushing Penny and they both got upset. I used my stern, mean voice to tell them to stop, and when Eliana wouldn't stop she had to sit down. Penny went away by herself, she sat in the far corner of the yard by herself. Eventually she came to me to tell me she didn't like when I yelled at her, and I explained why I had to use my mean voice.

Maybe 10 minutes later, Penny and Honor were disobeying by being in the little library instead of washing their hands. I said to Penny, if you don't get up now, I'm going to use my mean voice on you. Mrs. Robinson walked in at that moment and said "who needs to hear a mean voice? Who's not listening," and the kids jumped up and went to the bathrooms.

Mrs. Robinson had the kids play a game on the rug, she arranged them in a circle. When she told Emma to move spots, Emma said "Fine," to which Mrs. Robinson said, "Do not say fine, that's rude. You can say Okay or Yes, but fine is rude." Emma nodded and said okay. I love that the experienced teachers like Mrs. Robinson and Miss Jodhi are teaching the kids manners. It reminds me of how Japanese schools teach manners and respect to the elementary aged children, that's the focus.

It took two weeks, but I found my bossy, mean, stern, scary voice. My authority voice.
