Crescent Heights Day 8

I think the most refreshing part about working in education is that there are so many women leaders. After working with mostly male leaders and male art departments, it's a shift. It's like the women think about everyone, not just themselves. Or maybe it's an education thing, where we are more empathetic and supportive because those are the qualities we're trying to instill. I also like the idea of these little kids seeing women as the boss, who they have to listen to, who they respect.

The principal, Miss Champ, covered for our lack of substitute teacher when the rest of the aides left today. She turned on music in the shaded area where the older kids play. I love when little kids dance, it's so uninhibited and natural and organic and joyful. Honor and Kai were having a blast dancing, Kai was doing the robot.

The kids from my classroom did not want to play on that side of the yard. Emma started crying, she doesn't want to change classrooms, she doesn't want to go in the other part of the yard, she's uncomfortable in her dress. I think she was overheated in her sequin and tulle flower girl dress. I think everyone was extra hot today, there were more tears than normal.

For the third day in a row, Penny told me she doesn't have any friends to play with. I try to encourage her and tell her the other kids are her friends, but even after they start playing together, the other kids leave her. Penny had a fit yesterday when I wouldn't let her play with my hair, but luckily Miss Leslie diverted her. Today she just stuck to me like glue.
