When I woke up this morning, it felt like summer. The warm air, the sun beaming in from the window and the scent of the summer, something like grass, dew, wood, it reminds me of the playground or Bruin Woods. It was 6am, and as I lay in bed, I thought about what my day will bring. If I were working my old job, I'd think about how I would be working for the next 12 hours, coming home and doing it all over again. But in my new job, I thought about how I have the entire morning to do whatever I want, I can sleep like it's summer, I can get errands done, I have over 6 hours to do whatever I want, then I go into work for a mere 3 hours and I'm free again. I still get to have my summer with my job. And my job just adds to my day.
I like going into this job because everyday is different. When I work from home, all the days blend together, nothing separates them. Going into school, there will be a different combination of kids and adults, which makes for different chemistry and reactions.
Miss Lopez did not come today. Mrs. Robinson had to sub for her. At one point in the afternoon, I was telling Zarah, Iris and Ellie that they need to sit down and settle down, and as I finished speaking, Mrs. Robinson who was across the room yelled, "Did you hear what Miss Rae told you? Now do what she told you." I love that support and backup. I didn't even realize she was listening to us and she swooped in to help.
At the end of the day, I overheard Miss Nadia talking to Mrs. Robinson about how stressful her job is, and Mrs. Robinson asked to confirm that she's an assistant/aide, and that she shouldn't be stressed, she should just come in and follow the teacher. Miss Nadia went on about how she had a degree from her old country, but had to take this job while her son was little and now she has to stay at this job for her elderly mother. The last I overheard was that her son is 28.
