Crescent Heights Day 49

19 kids. No Ms. Jodhi or substitute. No head start on changing diapers. Ms. Sosie and I had to go down the entire list of 16 kids. Charles woke up crying and came to hug me. Mr. Wayne took him to sit at his table to wait so I can move and help Ms. Sosie. Charles cried and yelled, and for the first time, Ms. Leslie could decipher what he was saying “teacher! My turn!” Meaning he wanted to be changed next. Even though the kid runs away and disobeys me, he trusts me and wants to run into my arms. Darla started crying and I pulled her into a hug before it turned into a meltdown and the hug calmed her down. Sometimes they just need some body contact.

Ava screamed when Ms. Sosie and Ms. Flores changed her, I looked over and realized they had to take off her entire romper to change her, no more one piece outfits. Shockingly, Kamila was not crying when I arrived and held it together more of the time today. She would still have crying fits, but it wasn't nonstop all day. It was 2:48 when we finished everyone and went outside.

We spread out outside, Mr. Wayne was cleaning a cot or the room or something, but he wasn't outside with us. I watched Ava by the front gate, she played by herself and didn't notice me for a while. When she did, she started to walk to the main area. We had all three runners today, Ava, Maximus and Charles. Charles threw Duplo and hit Abigail and Emma. He and Maximus both had timeouts with Mr. Wayne and Ms. Flores.

After Ms. Flores left at 3:30, Ms. Robinson came over to watch out class with her 5-6 girls who were previously in our classroom. Ms. Robinson soothed Kamila who cried when Ms. Flores and Ms. Leslie left, I asked her how and she said she just talks to her. When her mom came to pick her up, she asked me how Kamila did, and I told her much better, she cried, but it wasn't the wailing nonstop that it usually is. Her mom took a lollipop out of her pocket and rewarded Kamila for a good day.

I don't know how to describe it, but this week Zarah has seemed down. More quiet and moments of whining. She's lower energy, which is good because she's not fighting or pushing, but still seems off. She kept asking for a bandaid, she really wanted a sticker so we went to Ms. Alex to get one. She promised to listen tomorrow if she got the sticker.

We only had a few kids with Ms. Robinson's class, so I told Zarah we could play with the purple sand. Eliana, Sophie, Ellie and Jaycee came to play. They made birthday cakes and we sang happy birthday to each person. It was so pleasant to be with the older girls.
