Crescent Heights Day 43

Ms. Sosie and I changed the kids, and Kamila was crying that she wants her mom. I lowered my mask to talk to her and comfort her. When we finally got to her, second to last, Ms. Sosie discovered diarrhea in her diaper. No wonder she was crying and uncomfortable, she had a 99 degree fever and we called her mom. The one exception I made to take off my mask for a crying girl, and the girl is sick.

Usman was not listening to Ms. Jodhi, she took away his blanket and he lost it, screaming and crying. She hung it on a high hook, out of his reach. I was spotting Ms. Sosie, when I turned and saw Usman pulling his blanket down. I grabbed it and he started screaming and crying. I had to take the diaper trash away so I let go and he stopped crying and walked away. Ms. Jodhi asked who gave him the blanket, I told her what happened and she took it away again and the crying restarted. His parents were called, Ms. Flores came back from lunch and sat with him. His crying stopped, he had his blanket again, Ms. Jodhi asked how he got it. Ms. Flores said he took it himself, and Ms. Jodhi said to herself, you let him take it, you gave it to him. Ms. Flores is the softy who doesn't enforce anything and she asks Ms. Jodhi to be the heavy and talk to the parents afterschool. It annoys Ms. Jodhi that Ms. Flores doesn't want to be the bad guy, but I think the parents feel closer to Ms. Jodhi because she talks to them.

While changing him, I called Maximus our helper and he relaxed his body and smiled, letting Ms. Sosie change him. He seemed so proud to be a helper. I also coaxed him into a different area of the playground by having him chase a toy dinosaur.

I was comforting Kamila and Charles saw me and started crying. He wanted to be hugged but I couldn't get to him while I hugged Kamila. I felt like I was causing his pain.

Not as much as when I took a toy out of Darla's hand when she tried to climb on the apparatus, and she screeched and cried. I told her it's not safe to climb with something in her hand, her mom was in the yard picking her up. She kept crying and screaming and they took her home. Ms. Jodhi left for her break and asked Ms. Robinson to help our class. Ms. Robinson heard screaming, we realized it's coming from inside, it was Darla still leaving. Ms. Jodhi said that she had another meltdown, her mom was so embarrassed. Ms. Champ came out and they all walked her to the car. I apologized to Ms. Jodhi for creating the crying situation and Ms. Jodhi said her mom needs to work on the tantrums, she probably does this at home.

Ms. Sosie told me we aren't changing Ava's diaper and she told Ms. Flores and Ms. Jodhi. I just accepted and moved on. After she left, Ms. Flores and Ms. Jodhi talked about Ava getting picked up because she wasn't changed. Ms. Jodhi said that Ms. Sosie tried twice but Ava screamed and she gave up. Ms. Jodhi eventually took Ava inside and changed her, she said that the loud noises and commotion after nap must overwhelm Ava. She seemed bothered by Ms. Sosie half-informing the teachers what's going on and leaving a child unchanged. She was also annoyed when she asked Ms. Sosie to take the cookies away from Darla, and she didn't move and so Ms. Jodhi got up and took the cookies and said she doesn't have time for this. I laughed, Ms. Jodhi says that to Mr. Wayne.

When we first got outside, a substitute was standing with a tall boy from another classroom, who was vomitting into the plants. She told me to tell Ms. Nadia that she's taking him inside. Ms. Nadia passed and I delivered the message, and she said she doesn't like that new person, she bosses her around and Ms. Nadia doesn't like how she talks to her. So much extra drama on the playground.

By the end of the day, I had 19 active minutes. I always kept my eyes looking for Charles, Maximus and Ava. Luckily none of them went into classrooms today, but Tilly did. Zarah also wet herself after she peed after her nap, when the kids were eating snacks. Ms. Leslie said she had an accident in the morning too, and she got her up early from her nap. She's acting out and regressing. Ms. Gulley actually sat with Maximus and her older girls and played with magnatiles together. This was after she told me to make sure Maximus puts the boat he took from the older kid water area back.

Ms. Jodhi wished me luck on my Parks and Rec interview tomorrow. She laughingly asked me to take her with me. That I'm counting the days to get out of here.
