Crescent Heights Day 4

Mrs. Flores asked if I've been extended, which I haven't been told, so she said she would follow up for me. That feels promising!

My timer resolution trick was not as effective today. Honor and Tiana did not understand the concept. So I had to improvise and negotiate, if they get off the bike, I will read a book or play with them until it's their turn. Honor wanted me to chase him to get the bike back, but jumped off at the chance to pick a book for me to read to him. As I read to Honor, other kids came around the table to listen. They would tap the book to get my attention to keep reading when I got distracted by other kids' needs. Honor pointed to a drawing of a ship and asked if it was the one that crashed, how does a 3 year old know what the Titanic looks like?

I feel like the kids trust me because they all come to me with their problems, just like how Miss Jodhi had a line of fires to put out on Monday. It feels good to be the point person, but only for a little while. It's exhausting.

I learned a phrase to stop whine crying, "Are you hurt? Do you need a bandaid?" Penny was crying while in the back of the yellow two seater bike and when I asked if she was hurt, she stopped to think and said no. It distracted or disarmed her and her cries turned into whimpers, then into laughs with the other kids.

Some kids wanted a snack afterschool, I asked Mr. Wayne where the snacks were and he said Miss Jodhi brings those in herself. So no snacks today. On Tuesday, Miss Jodhi gave me two bags of crackers for myself and offered more snacks to take home. I didn't realize she was offering from her personal stash! Luckily, Miss Nadia had snacks for the kids. She told Miss Lopez that we look out for each other as teachers. I love that.

Eliana wouldn't wipe herself and finish using the toilet. Soshie was getting frustrated and called Miss Tatiana who used a loud and stern voice. She was the only one to get Eliana moving and by the time she was leaving the bathroom, she was crying. We settled her down with her snack. Eliana had been pushing the limits all day, Miss Leslie said that she had to sit with her for an hour during nap time, but she still fought going to sleep. Eliana looks like a little wood nymph, she has such a sweet little face and she's always smiling. Devious.

It's Thursday. I'm starting to feel tired for the first time this week, and it's the end of the fourth day. That's pretty good in my book.
