Crescent Heights Day 13

I asked Miss Leslie if she thought the lack of a teacher the past few weeks has caused the kids to get more punchy at the end of the day. She said that the kids are probably testing their limits with me and that most of them know that their days are numbered before they move on to a different school or classroom.

Zarah's sister, Iris, tattled on Zarah for calling her ugly. I asked Zarah why she said that and she said because Iris was messing with her blocks. I asked Zarah to tell Iris that next time instead of saying she's ugly and apologize. She did and Iris tried to play with Zarah's blocks again, Zarah screamed and revved up to hit, and I told Iris that she needs to listen to Zarah and respect her space. Iris said, "but sharing is caring," to which I agreed and added that it's also important to listen to each other and respect what other's ask for. Phew.

Penny was obstinate and whiny again, Sophie wasn't at school today so she was without her best friend. Penny cried when she didn't get her way and followed me crying, I finally had to go to Miss V and tell her I need to hide from Penny and get a break from the crying. Miss V took Penny to the side of the yard, near the classroom, and Penny cried and wailed in the corner, her face turning pink and wet. After a while, she rejoined the group. When her mom picked her up, she told us that tomorrow is Penny's last day at Crescent Heights, she's starting TK at Carthay, so they're having a birthday/goodbye celebration. Miss Leslie called it.

Miss Nadia asked me if I had kids or was married. When I told her no, she said I need to go out to meet someone while I'm still young and beautiful. Ten years ago, that comment would be a catalyst to date, to make a change, to try the apps, to feel like something is wrong with me for being single. Now, I just know what type of person Miss Nadia is, how she has an old world way of thinking, she asked me if my culture does arranged marriages like hers.

After my shift, I checked my phone and got a text from Stephanie Davall. After working a shift with her mom over the weekend at Obon, she got my contact info and sent me a link to a job where she works, the Culver City Parks and Recreation department. Here comes my next adventure! From Abbott Elementary to Parks and Rec.

I didn't go on a walk this morning and took a nap instead. I think it helped.
