Crescent Heights Day 11

It was another day of defiance. I yelled at everyone. Miss Yami had to sit all the kids down to tell them to stop fighting.

In the last half hour of the day, the kids were walking in circles around the rug to a YouTube video, where they change their speed as they walk around. It switched to running and Zarah ran the wrong direction, right into Elena's mouth. Elena's lip started to bleed and she started crying. Her blood got on the shoulder of my cream shirt. I could see the skin of her lip peeled off, as blood gushed out. Mrs. Robinson got her a frozen sponge in a plastic bag, and we sat in chairs away from the group with the ice pack on her face. When her Elena's grandma came to pick up her and her sister, her sister began crying because she was expecting her mom. Mrs. Robinson did not like that behavior and told her she can't act like that towards her grandmother and she will be watching her leave through the camera to make sure she's not still crying. What a switch, the older sister who was comforting the younger sister with the busted lip had a bigger meltdown when it came to going home.

I'm really tired today. I had to count to three and threaten time outs. It was effective, but truly exhausting.

I'm in my third week of substituting, and I finally saw a paystub for how much I'm making per week, around $320. I know that I can't continue working 15 hours a week, I need to make more money. Am I willing to make arrangements around my 3 hour shift at the school, or will I need to find a full time job to pay my bills.

It's the following day and I had some realizations. We gave the kids a cookie with their snacks and milk after the nap. They were the cookies that Emma's mom brought the day before. Miss Yami read that each cookie has 10g of sugar. They all had a sugar crash at the same time.

I can't believe I forgot to write about my arrival to the school. All the toilets were out of order, with yellow signs blocking the entrance. I could hear the loud noise of the snake from inside the classroom, Miss Leslie said the technician came to clear the drains after flooding. I asked her what we're going to do when the kids wake up if the bathrooms are closed, so she rushed out to get them opened. Ms. Sosie and I used the changing table in the classroom to change the diapered kids and by the time we were done, the bathrooms were open again and we could use them.

I also discovered a whole new area of the school. Ms. Alex told me where the one open bathroom is, it's catty corner to where Classroom 1, my classroom, is. There's a huge kitchen on that side of the school, and if I turn a corner and walk down a hallway, I'm back to the hallway I always use to take the kids to the bathroom. I never have time to explore the campus, it's nice when a need creates a discovery.

Catherine was making a drawing for her dad. She said he left and he's probably not coming back. What do you say to that?
