Before the kids woke from their naps, I asked Miss Leslie what's going on with Eliana's mom. Miss Leslie said she's not entirely sure because it's classified family information, but from what she gathered, Eliana's mom has mental health needs and goes in and out of hospital stays, each time leaving and returning disrupting Eliana. Miss Leslie said there's been a few times where Eliana is sitting on the rug and zoning out, her eyes glazed over in a daze, and she starts saying "Don't go in mommy's room. Nobody can go in mommy's room." And then snapped out of it, surprised she said it out loud. Miss Leslie said this morning, Eliana pooped her pants, which is regression. At the beginning of the year, Eliana had accidents, but she'd been doing really well lately. Something at home with her mom is upsetting her and it's coming out at school. Miss Leslie and Mr. Wayne were on their LAUSD laptops, completing the suicide prevention requirement video, when I arrived. Miss Leslie said Eliana reminds her of some of the signs of child abuse, like the pooping in her pants and her anger outbursts.
Ms. Alex was not at the front desk, I think she was subbing somewhere else, they were talking about it yesterday with Ms. Flowers, who was also not at school today. Without Ms. Alex, our Room 1 aides had to cover the front desk, leaving us short one aide. After Miss Leslie left for the day, Mr. Wayne replaced her at the front desk, leaving only me and Miss Jodhi. Miss Jodhi hadn't had her break yet and was about to go inside to change Abigail's diaper, then take her break. I told her I was outside on my own, I could ask another classroom aide for help, but she said she doesn't like doing that. So I corralled the kids in one area, where I can oversee them all. Miss Jodhi said she'd change Abigail, then we can all come inside and she can take her break while they watch something. It felt overwhelming trying to watch everyone, while breaking up disputes and listening to whoever is talking to me.
Eliana threw the giant lego bricks, 4 connected in a row, at one of the outdoor mirrors. She's in an angry and destructive mode.
Ms. Jodhi let me leave before 4:30 today. She doesn't want me to burn out.
